Some people know the story. Some were asking. So here’s the story so I won’t have to tell it too often…
PL and I met in 1998 when we were part of a group that went to Japan as the guests of the Japanese Govt under the JICA programme.
There were in all five of us in the group – three girls and two guys. We were all single and we made a pact that if we were still unmarried after 15 years we would marry each other.
On returning to Singapore, one of the girls immediately married her high school sweetheart (or something). The Pact probably worried her. About a year or so later, the other guy in the group got married as well. Probably had to bribe the bride.
Recently (about two years ago) (Editor’s note: about 2011), the other girl realised that the 15 years was coming up, so she got married too.
PL and I lost track of time, so here we are!
And all of the above about the Pact is NOT TRUE!
But it would have made a good movie script. Probably some sort of rom-com.
I thought we might end up getting on each others nerves (which often happens on trips) but no. We got along quite well. Even tho, I forgot to bring the rail pass. So we had to pay full train fare everywhere we went. But we got to ride on the Nozomi Shinkansen!
After two weeks, it was kind of a readjustment to not seeing her and talking to her everyday.
So we spent more time together and then we realised the 15 years was up and we had to marry each other.
Or something like that. 🙂
