Youth, Idealism, and Age

From my FaceBook status update of 27 November 2013

Ode to idealism?

Any man who is under 30, and is not a liberal, has not heart; and any man who is over 30, and is not a conservative, has no brains.
– Winston Churchill (incorrectly attibuted)

[Hmmm… LKY was a “liberal” (he defies definition really) when he was in opposition, and became more “conservative” when he got into power. But I think it had nothing to do with age or maturity. 🙂 ]

The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.
– Friedrich Nietzsche

Youth, which is forgiven everything, forgives itself nothing: age, which forgives itself everything, is forgiven nothing.
– George Bernard Shaw

[Sad.]

The secret of eternal youth is arrested development.
– Alice Roosevelt Longworth

It is an illusion that youth is happy, an illusion of those who have lost it; but the young know they are wretched for they are full of the truthless ideal which have been instilled into them, and each time they come in contact with the real, they are bruised and wounded.
– W. Somerset Maugham

It is strange to re-encounter these “status updates”. I agree with the sentiments but I forgot I posted them.

But I guess I posted them, because i believe that they were timeless.
